Tim Burtenshaw - LLB

Director

Tim graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2011 with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted in March 2012. Tim worked at firms in Christchurch and Hamilton before relocating to Ashburton in December 2020.  He has been practising as a civil and commercial litigator since admission and has acted in a range of hearings and trials as well as confidential arbitrations and mediations over that time.
Tim is available to assist with claims and defences in the High Court, District Court, Family Court and various tribunals. He understands the stress, cost and time involved in resolving disputes and that the Court process can be daunting and foreign for those involved in a dispute. Tim is more than happy to advise on alternative dispute resolution processes where appropriate (such as mediation, expert determination, arbitration, or negotiating a settlement). Tim’s practice area is litigation and disputes. He can act on: commercial or contract disputes; civil disputes including property rights, relationship property, defamation and harassment; employment personal grievances; farming disputes; trust disputes; and estate claims.

Tim is an Associate member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand Incorporated and, provided he has not acted for either party to a dispute before and has the agreement of both parties, can act as a mediator or arbitrator to any dispute within his areas of practice.
