Expertise

The following are some of our core areas of practice.

Rural

Being a long-established firm operating in New Zealand’s agricultural heartland, we have experience of all aspects of law affecting rural operators; from farm sales and purchases, syndicated rural investment, water permit transactions and farm succession planning - we are able to help rural New Zealand do business.

Corporate & Commercial

Argyle Welsh Finnigan represents some of the most successful businesses and business people in Mid Canterbury. Many of these clients have been with us for a long time. During that time we have seen them grow significantly and expand, often into other parts of New Zealand, and in some instances across the world. We like to think that we have been able to contribute to their success by providing these clients with first class corporate and commercial legal services.

Wills, Succession Planning, Trusts

Being based in an area that has seen significant growth over the past 20 years, we find we spend a lot of time assisting clients with their asset management in a way that protects those assets and ensures that they are applied according to our clients’ wishes, both during their lifetimes, and after they die. Our goal is to help our clients structure their affairs in a way that gives them peace of mind and confidence in the future.

Home Purchases and Sales

There is more to transacting the purchase of a home than many people realise. At the same time we know that moving home can be one of the most stressful times in your life. Our goal is to handle your property sale or purchase invisibly. Generally, the only time you will hear from us on settlement day is when we call you to tell you that the keys are ready to pick up. And when you pick them up, you will be able to do so knowing that everything has been done correctly, from checking the LIM and title to the property to keeping your Bank happy. All you have to do is move in.

Relationship Property

Negotiating a contracting out agreement, or a separation agreement demands sensitivity and trust. It is intensely personal, and often emotional, work. Helping a couple establish themselves in a stable long-term relationship is rewarding. We don’t enjoy being part of a client’s relationship break up. However we realise that we have a duty to stand by our client and help them through the situation as quickly and smoothly as possible. We realise that in these situations, our clients need our 100% support and they get it, regardless of how difficult or stressful the situation may be.

Subdivisions

We act for a number of clients who have carried out land-mark developments in the Ashburton area. We have been able to offer them the legal services that mean that the salable product, the land title, is delivered as quickly and accurately as possible. We work closely with surveyors and engineers to ensure that the project is a success for our clients.

Employment

We advise both employers and employees on the full spectrum of employment law issues including restructuring, redundancies, relationship management, employee misconduct and performance issues. We seek to address disputes quickly and cost-effectively. We help clients to apply the raft of employment legislation to their businesses, including health and safety, privacy, parental leave, equal employment opportunities, and human rights laws.  We think it is important to never lose sight of the fact that we are dealing with people not 'transactions'
